GOD CARES ABOUT FASHION, MORE THAN YOU THINK

I assure you, this isn’t headed where you think it is.

In contemporary Christendom fashion is wayyy below the paradigm. I mean no Christian will tell you fashion is of greatest importance in the kingdom of heaven, Holiness is right there unless there’s an addendum – a declaration of modesty and how ‘women’ ought to dress conservatively but no one sees God as a Fashionista, as someone who cares specially for clothes. I’m here to prove that idea wrong by illustrating the story of ‘Moses and Aaron.’

Incase you have no idea who Moses is I’ll give you a brief introduction:

Moses, Hebrew, was born at a time Egypt was quite uncomfortable for the Hebrews and that’s putting it mildly. The Pharaoh of Egypt had demanded the killing of the sons of the Hebrew so it wasn’t the best of

time to have male children but by the mercies of God Moses was snuggled out by his sister in a basket. He was placed in a river, where he was ‘founded’ by Pharaoh’s daughter where which she adopted him as her son. In a twist, nollywood could never, the woman she employed as his nanny turned out to be Moses’ biological mother, again nollywood could never. So there ends the story of Moses for more information please seek succor from a Bible near you. Oh, Aaron is the Moses’ elder brother.

But what does this have to do with God, Fashion and the platitude of elements mentioned?

Well, the Israelites were enslaved and God through Moses brought them out of it. In a way of navigating life post-slavery, the Israelites were endowed with laws and precepts by God through Moses. God had given Aaron the post of priest ship but with this position came with privileges one of which is their garments. God, the creative director, through Moses had drawn this sketch (not literally) of what Aaron should adorn by virtue of his position of ‘priest ship.’

Now one thing I found interesting is God saying ‘Tell all the skilled workers to whom I have given wisdom is such matters…..’ For me it reinforces the idea that God endows certain people with certain skills and it displays the difference between life at that time and life now. They operated in line with the words of God, a stark contrast with our conduct of independence. Forgive my ramblings, I do that a lot.

Exodus 28 evinces in detail God ideas for the priestly garment. God subdivided the garment into: Ephod, Breast piece, and the rest. The chief colors of the garment were blue, gold, purple and scarlet. God loved working with precious stones, he insisted on: onyx, topaz, jasper, carnelian, chyrsolite, beryl, urim, thummim and a lot of gold. A lot.

Conclusion

With this piece of information it is a bit disconcerting to see the state of clothing in the church as of today, except we are to term God, double-faced, it is obvious the way and manner he insists on dressing up and out. The elements were utilized for a significant purpose other than beauty which is true. However it goes a long way in depicting fashion as a means of attaining something other than being perceived as mere clothes.

CHEON SEOJIN: WHY THE PANTSUIT?

Who is Cheon Seojin? Well, a little bit of introduction for the girlies in the back who have yet to see The Penthouse (yes we are judging you). Cheon Seojin is an essential character in the drama The Penthouse, some might declare her a villain but to me she's a misunderstood character, ok?! People have dissenting views regarding Cheon Seojin but what everyone agrees on is her position as the Fashion Queen.  And she established said position in her grand entrance in a striking blue pantsuit cinched with a black belt and a black coat. But it's just a Pant Suit? Oh, no you don't.  Ushering Cheon Seojin in a pantsuit is a move that lends a bit of knowledge about her character to the audience who is dying to ask the question: friend or foe?  The Blue Pantsuit puts into perspective two things: her character and her standing in society? Why the pantsuit? See if you're familiar with the korean drama scene especially ones relating to the upperclass and the elites, you will ...

DREST: A REVIEW

My most poignant memory of secondary school was playing simulation games with my classmates. I introduced them to Sim 2 and Fashion Icon (gameloft), they introduced me to High School story and Stargirl, a win win for everyone involved.  However I was always drawn to the flamboyance of fashion games: the ability to choose an outfit, pair it with the blingest jewelries, having men fight for your attention and challenging your rivals. Secondary school me was obsessed and couldn’t get enough until my mom’s phone got taken from her at gunpoint in a Danfo. I bid bye to Sim 2 and Fashion Icon, my most beloved games at that time.  As an adult I found myself reminiscing about those days a lot and maybe that drew me into giving ‘Drest’ a chance.  Drest and Me When I opened play store  that stormy morning, I had never heard of the game nor knew something of that nature existed in fact I’d like to call it fate. I downloaded the app reluctantly, passed through the procedures grud...
